Logo Design
A logo is only one aspect of an overall brand but a typical starting place for many businesses and organizations. A good logo will quickly and effectively communicate an impression or trigger recognition in the marketplace. Logos generally consist of an image, symbol, or icon along with a certain typographical element.
When developing logos we start with a design brief, followed by research, and occasionally long periods of time staring off into space… (or creative thinking as you may prefer). From here we move to the sketching phase where various ideas are quickly test driven on paper. Shapes, colours, and intended mediums are also factored in at this stage given that a logo should look good at any size as it could be presented on a roadside billboard, business card, and possibly even a favicon.
Next is the development phase. Sketched ideas are narrowed down to the most appropriate concepts and re-created on computer using industry standard programs. Colours are sampled to the various designs and text is styled.
One or more logo concepts (varies by project) are then presented to the client for consideration and further evolved based on any requested changes. Revised proofs are prepared for client approval.
Following acceptance, the logo would be ‘packaged’ in various formats based on the needs of the client. This may include vector, rasterized, colour, greyscale, and black and white versions as well as a style guide document outlining the various ways in which the logo can and cannot be utilized in media.
